The Reverend Clifford R. Brown, Rector

We welcome you to Christ’s Church, a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, a part of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion.

Christ’s Church is a historic church gathered in 1689 as a Church of England, and recognized as a mission parish of The Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts in 1704 with the purpose of meeting the spiritual needs of its parishioners and the community, a tradition that continues today as an Episcopal Church within the Anglican Communion.  Originally built in a quiet, pastoral location, Christ’s Church is now a part of and in the heart of the City of Quincy.

We give thanks to our Creator for the earth we share with all creatures, and we acknowledge that here, the parish grounds, are on the traditional lands of the Indigenous Massachusett at Neponset tribe called Moswetuset, who took their name from the place where they lived.  As a parish, we acknowledge that some early colonial benefactors of Christ’s Church enslaved people, and held indentured workers, benefiting from the related enterprises. Today, we acknowledge and repent of those acts, and commit to following the imperative of Jesus to do justice.  Our faith is historic, built upon the foundations laid by our ancestors in this community and the host of saints who have come before us.

No matter who you are —you are welcome here.

Everyone of every age, race, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental ability, or economic status is accepted and embraced as a friend.

Please use caution whilst moving around the churchyard due to the current preservation repointing work on the exterior Quincy rubble quarry granite of this historic edifice.
This preservation work is funded in part by a
City of Quincy Community Preservation Fund Grant

The Eucharist (literally “Thanksgiving”) stands at the core of Christian community and life, and goes by several names: Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper, the Mass, and Eucharist. But whatever it is called, communion is served at God’s table – and at Christ Church, all are welcome to come forward to the altar to receive the bread and wine in communion with God and each other, regardless of religious background. Gluten-free wafers are available.

Masking continues to be optional for all indoor services and events.  Anyone who wishes to wear a mask as a personal decision based on comfort level are most welcome to do so, and we will continue to keep a supply of masks available in the narthex for those who would like to wear them.

The windows throughout the nave are open to allow fresh air flowing up into the interior – please dress accordingly if cold outside.  The pews alongside the Elm Street outer aisle are still spaced apart, although at times due to the attendance numbers there might be a need to open some up for seating. Currently the undercroft of the main church is not in use for childcare because of ventilation concerns.  The Vestry is working on a solution to this concern.

Children of all ages are always welcome at either of the services with everyone, and if a respite is needed, please use one of the rooms on the main floor of the parish house; Memorial Room or Great Hall.  Children, 16 and younger, must have a parent/guardian with them per the Safe Church Policy of CCQ if a restroom visit is needed.  Thank you for your cooperation.
