The Acolyte assists the celebrant each Sunday in the worship of God. At Christ Church, the acolytes train faithfully to assist the priest so that services run smoothly in a dignified manner.
Each Sunday, three acolytes lead the procession to begin and to end services. The crucifer carries the cross to lead the procession. He or she may also be called upon to hold the Gospel for the celebrant to read from. The torchbearers light the altar candles before church and extinguishing them at the end of service. They also assist with communion and the offertory.
